When speaking about the music of Viktor Kosenko and Frédéric Chopin, one inevitably thinks first of their piano works. For both composers, the piano was the central medium of artistic expression — a place where intimacy, lyricism and emotional depth could unfold with complete honesty.
Kosenko deeply admired Chopin and felt a strong artistic affinity with him. Like Chopin, he devoted special attention to piano miniatures, understood the étude as a concert genre, and approached the piano as an instrument of profound personal expression. Significantly, both composers wrote three piano sonatas, works that combine large-scale form with an unmistakably Romantic sensibility.
They are also united by a deep emotional connection to their homelands and a heightened sensitivity to the historical realities of their time. Both lives were tragically short, yet extraordinarily productive, leaving behind music that continues to speak with clarity and sincerity. This concert brings together Kosenko’s Third Piano Sonata and Chopin’s Third Piano Sonata, creating a dialogue between two Romantic worlds, joined by the piano and by a shared artistic truth.
